Yankee Clipper Council - Eagle Association

Eagle Recognition Banquet Sponsors
As an Eagle Scout Sponsor, you are asked to share your professional and career expertise with an Eagle Scout who has indicated a specific interest in your field. The Eagle Sponsor is asked to "mentor" the Eagle Scout in these ways:
  • Invite the Eagle Scout to spend a day with you at your office or place of work or otherwise meet him to offer him insights about your career field, its requirements, its demands its opportunities and its challenges.

  • Host the Eagle Scout at the Yankee Clipper Council*s Eagle Recognition Banquet.

  •
  • From time to time, stay in contact with Eagle Scout as he pursues his education or chosen career.

Why should the Yankee Clipper Council Eagle Scout Association sponsor an Eagle at the Annual Banquet?

This is a crowning moment in the life of an Eagle Scout. It reaffirms their presents in a higher order. For many Scouts they attain their Eagle rank as an end to a Scouting career not a beginning. Soon they may be off to college or thrust into an adult world to provide for themselves or others. These changes may create demands where they may not choose to keep active in Scouts. These Eagles are a resource for this council and scouting. Maintaining a friendly link should benefit them and as a result future scouts. Eagles are an under utilized resource for Scouting.

Fulfill your responsibility as an Eagle sponsor and go beyond to introduce the Eagle Scout to the YCCESA. Think of the Scout as a tenderfoot and you in the role of Troop Guide. This is a new arena for these young men. Help them navigate by accompanying them or meeting them at the first event. This should be an icebreaker for their first adult association.

Eagle Sponsor Some ideas to help you

  • Keep in mind the youth protection guidelines when you meet with youth members. Parent participation or two Eagles with similar interest is a possibility.

  • As a Sponsor you are acting as a helping hand across generations.

  • Try to maintain a relaxed atmosphere in dealings with youth members. Even though you may feel like a peer as two Eagles meet, you may have many years between you. An informal atmosphere will break down any anxiety felt by the Eagle Scout.

  • Personally invite him to the next YCCESA event. A friendly face will make the situation more comfortable and the Scout may be less self-conscious entering a room full of adults.

  • Maintain at lease one other contact in the next 6 months; face to face, a phone call or possibly a holiday greeting.

  • Networking --- help these young men get started in their adult life. If you are comfortable offer to provide a reference.
