
Captain Douglas K. Dupouy, USN RET
Captain Dupouy is a native of
Topsfield, Massachusetts. He
graduated from the United States Naval
Academy in 1974. Following flight
training in Pensacola, FL, he received
his wings and was designated a Naval
Flight Officer in August 1975.
After completing training as a F-14
Radar Intercept Officer at Fighter
Squadron ONE TWO FOUR (VF-124), NAS
Miramar, California, he did tours at NAS
Oceana, Virginia in VF-32 deploying
twice to the Mediterranean aboard USS
JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67), in VF-101 as a
F‑14 flight instructor, and in
VF-33 as Operations Officer deploying
twice to the Mediterranean and Indian
Ocean on the USS AMERICA (CV 66).
Captain Dupouy did tours on the
staffs of Fighter Wing ONE at NAS
Oceana, VA as the Readiness Officer and
on Carrier Air Wing SEVEN as the Air
Wing Operations Officer deploying aboard
USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER.
In December 1988, he reported to
VF-74 first as the executive officer and
then assumed command in July 1990. In
August 1990 as part of Air Wing
SEVENTEEN embarked in USS SARATOGA, he
deployed to the Red Sea and led the
squadron during Operations Desert Shield
and Desert Storm flying combat missions
over Iraq.
In January 1992, following
acquisition training at Defense Systems
Management College at Ft. Belvoir,
Virginia, Captain Dupouy was assigned to
Naval Air Systems Command as the F-14
Assistant Program Manager for Systems
and Engineering, the F-14 “Class Desk”.
In 1992, Captain Dupouy was selected
for the Navy’s Nuclear Power Program.
Following nuclear power training, he
served as the Executive Officer, USS
DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER.
From March 7, 1997 to September 18,
1998 Captain Dupouy commanded the
amphibious ship USS DENVER (LPD 9).
During this tour, the ship deployed to
the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea.
Also during this tour the ship awarded
the COMNAVSURFPAC Battle “E” and two
consecutive CNO Safety awards.
In early 1999 following a short stay
at COMNAVAIRPAC, he was assigned as the
Fleet Operations Officer (N3) for
Commander, Seventh Fleet
forward-deployed from Yokosuka, Japan.
Captain Dupouy commanded the nuclear
powered aircraft carrier USS ABRAHAM
LINCOLN (CVN 72) from May 2000 to
November 2002. While commanding
Abraham Lincoln, the ship deployed twice
to the Persian Gulf. During his
tour, the ship was awarded the Arleigh
Burke Award and the COMNAVAIRPAC Battle
‘E’ as the fleet’s finest aircraft
carrier.
Captain Dupouy was assigned to the
Pentagon as the Navy’s Deputy Director
for Anti-terrorism and Force Protection.
From this tour, Captain Dupouy retired
on July 1st, 2004 following a 30-year
Navy career.
During his career, Captain Dupouy
flew more than 3,500 flight hours with
more than 1,000 carrier landings.
His awards include three Legions of
Merit, the Bronze Star, two Meritorious
Service Medals, four Air Medals (2
individuals with Combat V/2
Strike-Flight), three Navy Commendation
Medals (2 with Combat V), and the Navy
Achievement Medal.
Captain Dupouy lives with his family
in upstate New York in the town of
Greenfield, NY. Captain Dupouy is
a consultant with General Dynamics
Internet Technology working for the Navy
Warfare Development Command in Norfolk,
VA developing new warfighting concepts,
doctrine and technology.
