What is Wood badge

Wood Badge is the final segment in the BSA Training Continuum for all adult leaders:  ship training event for adult Scouters.

National Training ContinuumWood Badge is a multi-faceted presentation of leadership skills, organizational tools and participatory activities based on the best of Scouting traditions and the latest in team-development theory. Along the way, participants have a great deal of fun.

Wood Badge is your opportunity to:
Understand Scouting as a family of interrelated, values-based programs providing age-appropriate activities for youth.

  • Learn about contemporary leadership concepts and discover how those concepts are relevant to Scouting.
  • Apply the skills you learn from your participation as a member of a successful working team.
  • Revitalize your commitment to Scouting by sharing in an inspired experience.
  • Provide Scouting with renewed, mission driven leadership.
  • Meet and share with a diverse group of leaders from across the council and beyond.

Many Scouters consider Wood Badge to be the peak experience of their Scouting careers. Wood Badge has served as a source of training and inspiration to thousands.

In return, Wood Badge participants have had a profound, positive influence on the lives of millions of America’s youth.

Outdoor Experience Based

LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Wood Badge - Outdoor Experience Leadership trainingBeing “best in class” is the dream of many organizations.

Policies, procedures, flow charts, and programs all contribute to success, but leadership is the defining factor.

Although the demand is great, opportunities are scarce for individuals to learn leadership skills because of cost and ineffective techniques that don’t transfer learning from the “classroom” to “the real world.”

The Boy Scouts of America have found a way to bridge this gap with an upgraded and state-of-the-art curriculum called Wood Badge for the 21st Century.

This professionally developed course used throughout the nation spans one full week and addresses the core competencies that make a leader effective in any organization. Utilizing interactivity, small group learning, structured experiences, role playing, goal setting, and hands-on exercises, the following topics are addressed in-depth and through an outdoor experience.

  • Values, Mission, Vision
  • Listening to Learn
  • Communication
  • Inclusiveness
  • Valuing People & Leveraging Diversity
  • Coaching and Mentoring
  • Stages of Team Development
  • The Leading EDGE/The Teaching EDGE
  • Project Planning
  • Leading Change
  • Problem Solving & Decision Making
  • Managing Conflict
  • Self-Assessment
  • Leaving a Legacy

As a not-for-profit organization, the Boy Scouts of America offer this training to their adult leaders at a fraction of the cost that outdoor corporate training companies charge. Each training day begins early in the morning and is structured until late evening.

Participants need not worry about what they will do with their “free” moments because the days are fully scheduled to provide the highest impact training possible.

Let your organization feel the power of a well-trained leader that knows what to do. Not only is your organization a benefactor, but this investment will ultimately result in youth with stronger character to face today’s pressing issues. Participation in this once a year opportunity is limited to the first 48 registrants.
